PNE will discover who they will play in the first round of next season's Capital One Cup when the draw is released on Monday 17th June.
Teams will be seeded, based on their final position in the 2012/13 league tables, as well as being regionalised.
The first stage will consist of 70 Football League Clubs, including the Lilywhites, who will be looking to improve on last season’s run which ended against Middlesbrough at Deepdale in September.
North End had overcome both Huddersfield and Championship Play-Off finalists Crystal Palace on their way to the third round, but failed to make it a hat trick of Championship scalps as Boro’ came out on top with a three-one win.
Meanwhile, the highest placed relegated Clubs from the Premier League will be entered according to their position, meaning Reading will start in the second round of the competition and Wigan Athletic in the third.
14 Premier League sides will then join the Royals in the second stage, while the remaining six will also enter in the third round.
