PNE Women produced another impressive performance to beat Wolves Women 4-2 and progress in the Premier League Cup.
Most of the early game was played in the middle of the park before PNE had a penalty shout in the 19th minute.
Melissa Ball went down in the area under a challenge from Anna Perks, however the referee gave Wolves a free kick for diving but didn’t book Ball for her supposed offence.
PNE took the lead in the 26th minute when Paige Forster split the defence and sent Sophie Jones one on one.
Jones took a touch to steady herself and then slotted past Natalie Hall to make it 1-0 to PNE.
Almost immediately after the game restarted, PNE got their second, as Jones turned provider for Becky Grocott who brought down the cross with one touch and her second saw the ball settle in the bottom corner to extend the lead.
Seven minutes before half time, Wolves found a way back into the game as Dominique Luke gambled on a long ball from Leanne Rimmer.
Luke waited for the ball to bounce before heading over the outstretched Danielle Brown to reduce the deficit.
Wolves squared the game up in the 55th minute as Dani Selmes found herself with the ball at her feet in the area after a lucky rebound, striking the ball first time and it nestled in the bottom corner to make the score 2-2.
The goal of the game went to Grocott when she made it 3-2 to PNE in the 57th minute.
After received the ball on the edge of the area, she set herself up and produced an unstoppable volley that flew past Hall in the Wolves goal.
Keeleigh Savage, making her debut, extended PNE’s lead in the 70th minute when she fired in from 25 yards out, Laura Walker picked her out with a neat pass and Savage got the ball out from under her feet
before unleashing a powerful strike into the top corner.
