John Welsh Looking Forward To Competition

2 August 2014

The midfield at Preston North End is going to be one competitive place in 2014/15 with around seven or eight players vying for two or three starting places.

John Welsh spoke to PNE Player after the final pre-season clash with Leicester City; where he played over an hour in the engine room, and admitted that the manager is going to have some tough decisions before he picks his Notts County starting line-up in seven days time.

"It's a credit to the lads that there are so many options for the gaffer. You can look anywhere on the pitch and see there are lads who can be picked," he told the Club's online TV service.

"Everyone in the squad wants to play and the best thing we can do as footballers is to make it hard for the gaffer to make his decisions.

"There have been a lot of good performances during pre-season and that is all working towards giving the manager a headache and making it a struggle to pick his team.

"We all help each other and whoever is playing will get the backing from those who aren't because we are all pushing for the same thing - promotion - and the best way to do that is t come together as a squad and as a team."
