Tom Clarke: "We Want Clean Sheets"

4 August 2014

Tom Clarke says Preston North End’s defensive unit is determined to keep as many clean sheets as possible this season.

Simon Grayson’s side kick-off the new Sky Bet League One campaign against Shaun Derry’s Notts County at Deepdale on Saturday at 3pm.

The Lilywhites kept 20 clean sheets last term as they reached the Play-Offs, where they lost to Rotherham United at the semi-final stage.

Speaking exclusively to PNE.Com, Clarke, who scored against Leicester City at the weekend, insists Preston want to be even more water tight in 2014/15.

“We have worked hard defensively so that’s something we want to do this season, keep clean sheets again,” the defender said.

“With our strikers that we’ve got, we know we can get goals as well.”

North End wrapped up their pre-season campaign with a 1-1 draw against Nigel Pearson’s Premier League new boys on Saturday afternoon at Deepdale.

With all of the Club’s warm-up fixtures now complete, Clarke reflected on a tough few weeks of training and revealed the squad’s excitement for the competitive action to begin.

He said: “It’s been a tough pre-season we’ve obviously got Tom Little in from Birmingham and it’s been a tough one but the lads have done well so it’s been good.”

He added: “We have had a good pre-season so the lads are just wanting the game to come now and we can start the season and get that first win hopefully.”
