Simon Grayson cut a delighted figure after the final-whistle as he celebrated his birthday with a place in the JPT area final.
Although five changes were made to the side that drew against MK Dons on Saturday, the eleven still boded pedigree, and it was enough to see Simon Grayson’s men into the next round.
“We’ve took this competition seriously from the start,” stated the Preston North End boss. “we’ve had some difficult games and we’ve had another one tonight.
“We now have the opportunity to win two matches to get to Wembley, and hopefully we can achieve that for the supporters who’ve backed us on a horrible Tuesday night and let’s hope we can fulfil the ambition with which we started the season with to get to the final at Wembley
“Some of the lads have come into the side tonight and they haven’t let us down - with Jack King and the two young boys in midfield [Josh Brownhill and Alan Browne] whenever they get an opportunity they always try and take it and they’ve done that tonight.”
