Huddersfield Town Ladies 2-6 PNEWFC

16 December 2014

Preston North End Women made it seven wins from eight games with a 6-2 victory against Huddersfield Town Ladies on Sunday afternoon.

17-year-old Sarah Chadwick scored her first hat trick for the first team whilst Chelsea Flanagan, Emily Hutton and Holly Rawcliffe added the other goals.

Huddersfield created the first chance of the game in the fifth minute when Emily Heckler hit the bar before Danielle Brown saved from close range after Katie Lockwood followed up the rebound.

Six minutes later PNE took the lead with Chadwick scoring the first of her three goals.

Laura Walker's 35 yard free kick was tipped onto the bar and Chadwick followed up to make it 1-0.

Chadwick's second came shortly after following a good piece of skill on the edge of the area.

She took the ball past one player before prodding a shot into the back of the net off the inside of the post.

After the two early goals the game's tempo slowed down with North End controlling possession, but it was the home side who added the next goal of the game in the 36th minute.

Lockwood latched onto a through ball and calmly slotted past Brown to reduce the deficit.

The equaliser came two minutes before half time after Preston failed to clear their lines.

The ball fell kindly to Heckler and she volleyed home to make it 2-2.

PNE Manager Luke Podmore sent his players out early for the second half, and the trick seemed to work as the Lilywhites regained the lead a minute after the restart.

A long ball from PNE's half split the Huddersfield defence and Chadwick latched onto the end of it to apply the finish to seal her hat trick.

Huddersfield reacted positively to going behind again and created numerous chances but couldn't find a way past the PNE back line.

Brown did well to deny both Olivia da Costa and Kate Mallin before Walker cleared off the line to deny Debbie Hastings.

Walker was then in action at the other end of the pitch as she set up Flanagan pass to add North End's fourth of the afternoon.

Walker aimed a free kick to the near post and the former Manchester City striker Flanagan got the slightest of touches to divert it past Laura Carter in the Huddersfield goal.

Walker then added her second assist of the game when she played in Hutton to make it 5-2.

Hutton chased onto the through ball and beat Carter to it, sliding home into an empty net to all but seal the three points.

The scoring was completed in the 86th minute when Rawcliffe added the goal of the game.

The ball came to her around 25 yards out and she hit a first time looping effort that dipped just under the bar to make it 6-2 to wrap up the three points in style.

The win sees PNE move up to 8th in the FA Women's Premier League Northern Division with games in hand on the teams above them.

Next up is a trip to Newcastle United on the 21st December.
