Tom Clarke spoke to PNE Player after the Shrewsbury Town victory announcing his delight on the Lilywhites recent defensive record, as well as getting back to winning ways at Deepdale.
But it was Clarke’s defensive partner Paul Huntington who struck what was to be the winner, capitalising on a loose ball in the box to fire home on 19 minutes, to give the home side a deserved 1-0 victory.
“We like to attack the ball and fortunately we’ve been getting on the end of them as of late,” said Clarke on the fact four of the last five goals scored by North End have been from defenders.
“The lads are putting in some great deliveries, and it’s great that we can chip in with the odd few.
“It was a nice finish [On Huntington’s goal]; he was buzzing that it went in and he’s not stopped talking about it since!”
The victory gives the Lilywhites the opportunity to play the big-hitters in the next round, and Clarke acknowledged defeating the Shrews was no easy feat despite them being lower league opposition.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game, but all we wanted was to be in the hat for the next round, and that’s what we’ve done so we’re very pleased.
“It was difficult for us – they’re flying high in League Two – we’ve played them before so we knew that they were a good team, so it was nice to get the win.”
