Sir Tom Finney Pall Bearers Named

26 February 2014

Some of the most iconic names associated with Preston North End will carry Sir Tom Finney’s coffin into the Preston Minster Church on Thursday.

The six individuals chosen are; current North End manager Simon Grayson, goalkeeping coach Alan Kelly, Club captain John Welsh and lifelong Preston fan Joe Garner.

Those four will act as pall bearers along with two iconic footballing figures of recent years at Deepdale, Graham Alexander and Ian Bryson.

The family of Sir Tom Finney asked Preston North End to choose the six men and the Club feels proud and privileged to have such an honour bestowed on them.

Manager Simon Grayson said: “For me it is a huge honour and a privilege to be asked to be a pall bearer and it is something that I will cherish for the rest of my life.

“Just to be at the church would have been something to behold, but to be able to play that role is something which truly makes me proud to be the manager of this great Club.”
