Simon Grayson: “A Big Game For Us”

27 January 2014

North End manager Simon Grayson says his side are aiming to close the gap on the top two by earning three points at Bradford on Tuesday night.

The PNE gaffer spoke ahead of the Roses clash and said that the aim of everyone at the Club is to catch their promotion rivals and finish in an automatic promotion spot.

North End travel across the Pennines with the first of potentially five midweek games in the next eight weeks, a chance to get plenty of points on the board.

“It’s a big game for us,” said the Lilywhites’ chief. “We want to get the three points and make up some ground to catch the top two. We still feel we can get there. There are a lot of games between now and the end of the season.

“The games are going to be coming thick and fast, especially with all the rearranged games, but we feel we have the strength in depth within the squad to keep changing the team around, keeping it fresh and put pressure on the teams above us.

“That’s what we are trying to do and we start with a tough game on Tuesday night and then again on Saturday against Notts County.”

The game at Deepdale between the two sides in the first half the season ended all-square, set pieces the key, with four headed goals traded in an entertaining 2-2 draw.

“It was a good night against Bradford earlier this season,” he continued. “There was a good atmosphere, some good football – an entertaining game and I am sure it will be the same again.

“They’ve made quite a lot of additions over the last week or so. They’ll be hoping the change of personnel can ignite a change in fortunes again and they have got some threats.

“In terms of our team, we want a good delivery and want people to attack the ball. They have the threat of Hanson and people like him who are six foot four or five are always difficult to play against. We need to stop the source to him and whoever is picking him up has to deal with him.

“They will have watched us on Friday night and in other games of late and seen what we are capable of doing, as we have with them.”
