Looking At: Port Vale

7 July 2014

PNE.Com’s ‘Looking At’ series continues today with Port Vale.

Founded: 1876
Nickname: The Valiants
Stadium: Vale Park
Manager: Micky Adams
Last Season: 9th in League One

Port Vale head into their second season back in Sky Bet League One following a solid 2013/14 campaign in which they finished 13 points off the Play-Off places.

Micky Adams’ side started last term with just one win from their opening five games but a decent stretch of form from October to December saw them pick up 22 points from a possible 33.

An impressive 2-0 victory over eventual promotion-winners Rotherham United was one of 13 home league wins for the Valiants.

Louis Dodds and Gavin Tomlin bagged the goals as Vale sent Steve Evans and the Millers back to the New York Stadium empty-handed.

Preston beat the Vale Park outfit in both meetings last season. Simon Grayson’s side were 3-2 winners at Deepdale and a Joe Garner double secured a 2-0 victory in Staffordshire.

Vale will make the trip to face North End on Saturday 18th October next season and will host the Lilywhites on Friday 17th April.
