Looking At: Swindon Town

4 July 2014

PNE.Com is taking an in-depth look at each of Preston North End’s opponents for the 2014/15 Sky Bet League One season with today’s focus being on Swindon Town.

Founded: 1879
Nickname: The Robins
Stadium: County Ground
Manager: Mark Cooper
Last Season: 8th in League One

The 2013/14 season was Swindon Town’s second consecutive campaign in the third tier of English football following their promotion from League Two in 2012.

The Robins started with a 1-0 loss to Peterborough United at London Road but grabbed their first three points the very next week, at home to Stevenage.

A 5-0 thrashing of Crewe Alexandra in August was the biggest margin of victory they managed throughout the season, which they finished in eighth place.

Like Preston, Swindon have an Australian international in their squad. Midfielder Massimo Luongo was called up to the Socceroos’ final 23-man party for the World Cup in Brazil alongside Bailey Wright.

The Robins will open the 2014/15 season at home to Scunthorpe United and face Preston North End for the first time on 11th October.

Cooper’s side will travel to Deepdale for the penultimate game of the campaign, on 25th April 2015.
