Looking At: Scunthorpe United

20 June 2014

PNE.Com is taking an in-depth look at each of Preston North End’s opponents for the 2014/15 Sky Bet League One season with today’s focus being on Scunthorpe United.

Founded: 1899
Nickname: The Iron
Stadium: Glanford Park
Manager: Russ Wilcox
Last Season: 2nd in League Two

Scunthorpe United sealed an immediate return to Sky Bet League One last season by finishing as runners-up in England’s fourth tier.

The Iron finished five points clear of the Play-Off places and just three points behind champions Chesterfield after 46 games.

A run of 28 unbeaten matches in League Two propelled Russ Wilcox’s side into consideration for promotion. The streak stretched over five months, from November 2013 to April 2014.

Scunthorpe have already been busy this summer, bringing in former Port Vale winger Jennison Myrie-Williams and tying down numerous first team players to new contracts.

The Iron begin the 2014/15 season with a trip to Swindon Town before hosting none other than Preston North End on the second weekend of the campaign.

The Lincolnshire outfit will visit Deepdale on 21st February of next year.
