Preston North End Groundsman Targeting Top Award Again

17 June 2014

Preston North End’s head groundsman Pete Ashworth is determined to retain his Sky Bet League One Groundsman of the Year award next season.

Deepdale’s playing surface was voted the best in the third tier for the 2013/14 campaign by opposing players, management and officials.

The aim now is to ensure the pitch is ready for Preston’s pre-season clash against Liverpool and to keep it in top shape throughout the campaign in order to gain similar recognition.

Pete told PNE.Com: “Fingers crossed!

“There’s a couple more good clubs who have come into the league who have good pitches like Fleetwood who won it for League Two, so they will be up there, they will have a decent pitch.

“But again it’s all down to, really, us doing a good job, the manager and the players looking after it as well and hopefully a good winter.”

Watch the full, exclusive interview with Pete as he gives a full update on the pitch ahead of the 2014/15 season below.
