Preston North End left back Scott Laird is looking forward to getting a full pre-season under his belt.
The defender’s preparations for the 2013/14 campaign were hampered by the broken leg he suffered against Notts County at Deepdale two years ago.
But having featured in 42 games for Preston last term, the 26-year-old is confident he will return to training in top shape and ready to challenge for promotion.
He told PNE.Com in an exclusive interview: “Last season I was behind and it took me a good couple of weeks to catch up everybody else and also when the season started I still wasn’t match fit and ready to go.
“But ultimately, that is behind me, I have a full pre-season in front of me and hopefully I’ll do well and get myself in the starting 11 for the start of the season.”
Laird recently married his long-term partner Leanne in Somerset and the defender admitted the occasion is not one he will forget anytime soon.
“It was brilliant, we had a great time,” he said of his wedding day.
“Obviously we have been planning it for a while, the day came and it went really quick but we had such an amazing day.
“Everyone who has been married will say the same thing, it’s a great day and it just goes so quickly.”
Simon Grayson’s side return for training early next month and Laird, who is heading into his third pre-season with the Club, is eager to get back to Springfields.
“I really can’t wait,” he continued.
“You recharge your batteries, see family and friends, but everyone is looking forward to getting back and putting the season we’ve just had behind us and building on what we’ve done.
“The manager has made some really good signings over the break we’ve had and it will be good to get back and have them around and ultimately boost our squad.”
