‘All Pulling In The Same Direction’

1 May 2014

Jack King believes that everyone associated with Preston North End is heading in the same direction ahead of the last regular season fixture of the season.

The Lilywhites travel to Crewe to face the Alex on Saturday afternoon before embarking on their Play-Off campaign.

And King wants the players to focus on maintaining their current good form; whilst they are backed from the stands by another North End sell out away following.

Speaking exclusively to PNE.Com, King said: “The Club is together as one and we are all going in the same direction.

“We have got to maintain the levels we have been up too and having a big following there can only help us.

“It is not going to seem like a pre-season friendly, we have got a big following and we will be doing our best to get them the result that they want.

“We want to finish third, we want to have the most amount of points that we can.

“We have got to go about it professionally and if we can get that win, we are guaranteed third spot and will play Peterborough.

“This game is just about carrying on the momentum for us; we will have the same approach as we did last weekend.

“They have got a lot to play for and will be fighting for their lives, so we will be going about it professionally to maintain the levels we have been playing at recently.”

The central defender agrees with manager Simon Grayson that PNE would rather be involved in a game with a real competitive edge on Saturday; Crewe still needing to secure their League One status for 2014/15.

And with King never having tasted as much as a draw against the Alex in his time with Preston, he is keen to put that right on Saturday; whatever the consequences of a PNE win for the Alexandra Stadium Club.

“We would much rather be playing a team with something on the line,” continued King.

“It will be a good test for us, it will be a tricky pitch, they are a tricky team to play against.

“The last three times, certainly since I’ve been involved here, we have lost all three, so we owe them something and it is definitely a good test for us.

“I think they are a team that generally, if they get the first goal, they grow in confidence.

“They are down there for a reason, they obviously haven’t been doing well in certain other games and I think the first goal is important and we need to approach the game in the right manner.”

King’s team-mate Paul Gallagher was nominated for League One’s Player of the Month for April and the PNE No.22 was quick to acknowledge the valuable contribution the on loan Leicester City man has made to Preston’s recent good form; particularly at Deepdale.

“Paul Gallagher is a good player,” stated King.

“He has got that proven quality, he has played in the Premier League and the Championship and he has been a good player for us since he has signed.

“He gets his foot on it in tight positions and settles us down.

“I don’t know how many assists he has got but it is right up there, so he has been a great player for us and hopefully he can take the award.”
