Match Winning Hero Thorsten Stuckmann Delighted With JPT Progress

25 November 2014

Penalty king Thorsten Stuckmann saved one and scored one as North End advanced to the Northern Area semi-final of the JPT.

The German stopper saved early in the shootout before Oldham Athletic goalkeeper Neil Etheridge blazed over the crossbar at 9-9, allowing Stuckmann to slot home the winner – a match which sets a new record for a penalty kick score line involving the Lilywhites.

But Stucki says that he was calm under the intense pressure of a dramatic night at Boundary Park, a game which finished 2-2 after 90 minutes, Scott Laird and Tom Clarke grabbing the PNE goals.

“I think it went quite well for me and to be fair, the lads took some really good penalties as well,” said Tuesday night’s hero.

“I was unlucky on a few penalties not to save them so I was glad to save one and after he (Neil Etheridge) missed his one I just felt like I wanted to place it in the corner and that’s what I did.

“He (Etheridge) went so early so I thought there was a massive space and I just thought ‘hit the target and it is in’ and that is how it was.

“I was surprised with myself, I was quite relaxed before the penalty!”
