PNE Player: Simon Grayson ‘We Can Still Do Better’

4 October 2014

After finding the net on four occasions today, Simon Grayson took to PNE Player to announce his pleasure on the win, but admits there’s still room for improvement.

Goals from Scott Wiseman, Alan Browne, Paul Gallagher and Chris Humphrey saw North End record a 4-2 victory against Colchester United this afternoon, with two goals in the first 13 minutes of the second half proving decisive after going in at half-time 2-2.

The win is the Lilywhites’ third victory in as many games seeing North End go into the International break in fifth place, and with all of Preston’s goals coming from midfield, the PNE gaffer declared his content having seen four different players find the net today.

“We are asking for players to chip with the goals; we can’t just rely on Joe Garner and the strikers to score - we had to make sure we worked Colchester’s back four and we got the breaks when we needed them.

“After half-time, we knew we had to have a fast start to try and get at them - we changed a few things around, got the goals and looked very exciting.

“We were obviously going out to win the football match and get the goals which we did so that was pleasing - but there were other aspects that I felt that we needed to do better in.

"We didn’t win enough second balls, and we didn’t defend as well as we could have, but we still won the game by scoring four goals which was the main thing.”
