Clarke On Inclusion In PFA League One Team Of The Year

28 April 2015

North End defender Tom Clarke was named in the PFA League One Team of the Year at the weekend but admits he would happily swap that for promotion with PNE.

The 27-year-old has been a crucial part of a defensive unit that has kept 21 clean sheets in the league so far this campaign and has been a first team regular since joining the Club in the summer of 2013.

Being selected in the Team of the Year, an accolade voted for by fellow professional footballers, is something the PNE No.5 was delighted with.

"It's an unbelievable honour, when I got the phone call from the PFA I was very pleased. It's something that will be going up on the wall and I'm very happy.

"I think the main part of it really is you vote yourselves and it's who you come up against and who you've had a tough time against I would imagine.

"So it's a great honour, I'm very privileged to be picked in the team.

"But you could take it back to the PFA tomorrow for promotion! It's a massive game on Sunday now and I'm just looking forward to it."

With stars from throughout the football world in attendance, Clarke admits it was a fantastic event to be a part of but insists the focus is now on this weekend's promotion decider against Colchester United.

"It was a great night, I took my wife down, there were comedians, music, and some massive names there getting the awards.

"It was just nice to be involved in that and it's a great experience being in there with great names and it's something that I took away with me."

Speaking of Sunday's game, he continued: "We want the game straight away really but it's on Sunday, we've got a good week preparing now and this is where it starts, on the training pitch gearing up for Sunday."
