Simon Grayson: “We Could Have Had Three Or Four”

18 April 2015

Preston North End manager Simon Grayson bemoaned a 1-0 half time lead and a lack of discipline as his troops shared the spoils at Vale Park.

The Lilywhites, much like against Gillingham on Tuesday night, could have been out of sight inside the opening 45 minutes, but three penalties and red card later it finished 2-2 with Port Vale.

A result which disappointed Grayson.

Speakiing to PNE Player at the conclusion of the game, the gaffer said: “You could be putting the same interview out as Tuesday night.

“Again, first half, we played very well and limited the opposition to very few chances.

“Tonight, in the first half, we could have had three or four in the first 15 minutes.

“We were very lively, we got on the front foot, we stopped them from playing, we played ourselves, mixed it up and ultimately we go in at half time disappointed that you are only 1-0 up.

“We stressed to the players that we had to go out really fired up and get into them again because we knew they would come out at us.

“Unfortunately, they got up a head of steam, and even still, you go 2-1 up against ten men and you should see the game off properly and we have not done that.

“A lack of discipline from individuals and collectively as a team has cost us again and its four points dropped this week unfortunately.”
