The following is a message from Staffordshire Police in relation to Friday night’s Sky Bet League One clash with Port Vale.
This time of day is a particularly busy period on any given Friday and local motorists are asked to take an alternative route, or alter the time of their journey, where possible.
Chief Superintendent Jeff Moore, who will be Match Commander, said: “I would like to issue a plea to supporters, both for Port Vale and Preston, to ask them to consider their travel plans, to and from the match.
“I would urge motorists to consider car sharing where possible, or catching a bus to the stadium.
“Preston North End Football Club have arranged coaches to Burslem and away fans are encouraged to make use of this service.
“Preston fans should be mindful that rail travel is not a straight forward option as the match finishes after the last train departs the local station at Longport.
“We will be working with Port Vale on the day to ensure the safety of the supporters so everyone can have an enjoyable time.
“However, we would ask people who do choose to travel by car, to be patient when leaving the parking area and allow extra time for this part of the day.”
