Gaffer Delighted With Cup Progress

13 August 2015

Manager Simon Grayson was pleased with his side's performance as they beat Crewe Alexandra 3-1 to progress in the Capital One Cup.

The gaffer made five changes to the side that started at Deepdale on Sunday, but this was something the PNE boss knew wouldn't weaken his side, and praised the players who came into the team.

"We said to the players before the game that the changes we made were't going to weaken us. Any of those players could have gone into the team at the weekend and could do this weekend against MK Dons.

"We feel like we have a good squad and some good players so I was never going to use that as an excuse because we wanted to make sure we got into the next round of the Cup.

"We feel it's important to treat the competition with the respect that it's due because it's a great competition.

"There were some good performances right the way through the squad, lads that came in, like the midfield three of Kilkenny, Browne and Brownhill, they did ever so well.

"Greg Cunningham looks like he's settling very well into the team, and Marnick as well so overall I'm very pleased with the win and we are through to the next round now."
