Simon Grayson: “We Did Everything We Needed To”

15 August 2015

Manager Simon Grayson was delighted with his side’s first win of the Championship season, as they triumphed 1-0 at stadium:mk thanks to Paul Gallagher’s first half goal.

The North End boss witnessed his ten-men hold on for the three points and another clean sheet after Jordan Hugill’s red card ten minutes from time and was pleased with the work-rate of the team.

“We did a lot of good things today,” he told PNE Player. “We defended as individuals and as a team and we got into some good positions when attacking as well.

“They all worked extremely hard and earned the target of another clean sheet.”

The goal came from a counter-attack, a feature of their play on an afternoon where over 1,200 fans made the trip to MK1.

“We set a game plan where we felt that counter-attacking was a good way for us to play today,” continued the gaffer. “We had some good opportunities, but it was nice to get into those positions; we moved the ball with pace and who can see a pass as well and we are really pleased with the way it happened.

“The goal itself was really well crafted.

“We broke really well as a team and Gally got the ball in the box; it took an eternity to finish it, but he dropped his shoulder and did ever so well with the composure and ultimately we did everything we needed to do to win the game.”
