Hunts Praises Defensive Unit

10 December 2015

Defender Paul Huntington has put North End's impressive defence partly down to team spirit within the squad.

Simon Grayson's side have kept seven cleansheets in the last nine games, and Hunts admits it's a team effort, and not just down to the defensive players.

"We've set our standards, overall the performances have been good we just need to continue matching that with the result which we managed to do on Saturday.

"We've been good defensively but I don't think it's just the defensive unit that needs to take credit really, it's that team spirit that we've got.

"We've got quite a settled defensive unit and obviously Jordan Pickford plays his part as well.

"It's a squad thing, rather than individuals going about their business, it's about doing things as units and helping each other out and we've been doing that well but we know we've always got to be on our game, every game, especially in this league."

Manager Simon Grayson should have a full defensive group to choose from this weekend with the return of Bailey Wright from suspension and Calum Woods from injury, and PNE's No.23 feels that will only benefit the squad further.

"It's good to have competition, obviously we had players out through injuries and suspensions so things are looking better now.

"So hopefully that will show on the pitch and we can keep picking up the points and climb up that league."
