Simon Grayson Pleased With “Good Team Performance”

11 February 2015

While Joe Garner will get the plaudits on his return to the PNE starting lineup, Simon Grayson emphasised the all-round team display as the Lilywhites beat Chesterfield.

Garner’s double wrapped up the points against Chesterfield who were reduced to ten men after only three minutes at the Proact Stadium, and while, and rightly so, the returning frontman will grab the headlines,
the gaffer was pleased with numbers one through 14.

“It was a good team performance,” stated Grayson.

“We went 3-5-2, a different formation, it obviously helped with the sending off but then again it is never easy when they go down to ten men because it makes them resilient and they are a good footballing team whether they have got ten or 11.

“Full credit to Paul Cook, he has got a team that plays with real energy, quality, they push people forward and play with no fear, so we knew we were still in a game and we had to make sure that even at 1-0 we pushed on and got that second goal because any encouragement for a team like that can hurt you.

“Full credit to the players, they were focused, concentrated and did what they needed to do and it is a great result to come here and get three points and a cleansheet against a good team.”
