Josh Heaton Signs First Professional Contract As Steven James Signs New Deal

1 July 2015

Central defender Josh Heaton and goalkeeper Steven James have penned new deals with Preston North End.

Heaton, formerly Sampson, is the only member of the 2014/15 second year scholars to be offered professional terms at the Club.

Heaton has signed a one year contract with a further year’s option at Deepdale having spent the majority of the 2014/15 season on loan at Tamworth in the Conference North where he was a regular in the heart of their defence.

The tall, composed centre back will be looking to impress during the early part of the season as he begins to make his way in the professional game.

James signed his first professional contract with PNE in May 2013 having been on the books of the Club’s Academy for almost a decade.

He has signed a new one year deal for the 2015/16 season.

The ‘keeper is yet to make a first team appearance for the Lilywhites, but has experienced many successful loan spells in non-league football.

Speaking of the additions, manager Simon Grayson said: “It is great to have both Josh and Steven on board for the forthcoming season.

“Josh did exceptionally well at Tamworth where he experienced what is was like to play men’s football for the first time and came through that challenge with flying colours.

“As for Steven, he has made progress since the day I arrived at the Club and he thoroughly deserves the chance to progress again with us.”
