Match Preview: Southport v Preston North End

21 July 2015

Following back-to-back successes, Simon Grayson’s men make the trip to Southport for their latest pre-season encounter on Tuesday evening, kick-off 7pm.

The Lilywhites returned to Deepdale for the first time since tasting victory in the Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final against Swindon Town, and this season’s group looked slick and sharp as they beat Scottish Premiership side Heart of Midlothian by a single Joe Garner goal to nil.

But it is back on the road for PNE tonight ahead of a trip to Scotland on Friday.

With many senior players participating for a large chunk of Saturday’s win – North End’s third match without conceding a goal; their sixth in total going back to the end of the 2014/15 season, Tuesday may provide a chance for the younger members of Grayson’s first team squad to impress.

It is unlikely that Kyel Reid will be involved at the Merseyrail Community Stadium following a bout of tonsillitis which kept him out of Saturday’s match with the Jambos. It is also unknown if Neil Kilkenny will feature, a niggling injury keeping him out of Preston’s last two warm-up matches.

Chris Humphrey is still on Gold Cup duty with Jamaica as they bid to enter the record books with semi-final glory over the USA in Wednesday night’s semi-final in Atlanta, Georgia.

For the home side, former Preston North End defender Luke Foster, who signed a new deal with the Sandgrounders in the summer, is likely to captain the team.

Entry to Tuesday’s fixture is priced at £8 for adults and £5 for concessions, with payment on the turnstiles.

If you can’t make it to Southport, you can listen to the full match live on PNE PlayerHD with Jonathan Breeze from 6.30pm.
