My Ultimate Five-a-Side – Joe Garner

8 July 2015

We continue to look back at the Sports Trader League One programme of the year ‘The One And Only’ with Joe Garner.

Next up to choose their ultimate five-a-side team is top goalscorer and League One player of the year for 2013/14 Joe Garner, and he opts for a 1-1-2 formation with French goalkeeper Fabien Barthez making an appearance -  as a sweeper.

Fabien Barthez
Goalkeeper
I will go for Barthez in net, he’s decent with his feet as well as his hands and he’s comfortable on the ball and I think he would be a good sweeper as well to have in a five-a-side team, so I will go with him in goal.

Rio Ferdinand
Defender
I will have Rio Ferdinand as centre half. He’s comfortable on the ball, a very good defender, and he’s good in the air. He’s obviously got a lot of experience as well. He’s played for both his Club and country for years so would be my defender.

Paul Scholes
Midfielder
He’s technically brilliant and he can see a pass. He’s probably the best midfielder of his generation and he’s pretty much won everything. He’s won the Premier League many times, the FA Cup, the Champions League, and a few others, so he knows what it’s all about.

Ronaldo
Forward
I would go for two Ronaldo’s up top! The Brazilian Ronaldo was a great player and obviously a double World Cup winner so that speaks for itself really. He is one of the greatest players of all time and has won a lot of trophies pretty much everywhere he has been.

Cristiano Ronaldo
Forward
He’s arguably the best player in the world at the minute for me. He’s technically gifted, he’s worked hard to get to where he is and he’s got a lot of skill and plenty of goals in him. He’s shown how good he is because he’s been and done it in other countries as well and some players struggle to adapt to different styles of play but he obviously doesn’t.
