Paul Huntington Discusses A Memorable Summer And Pre-Season Training

3 July 2015

It's been quite a year so far for PNE defender Paul Huntington, and now the hard work starts again as pre-season training is now underway.

After scoring at Wembley, winning promotion, being named Preston North End's Player of the Year and signing a new deal at the Club, Huntington rounded off the season by getting married, but it's now back to reality for the 27-year-old after the squad returned to training this week.

Despite the gruelling fitness work of pre-season training, Hunts is delighted to be back around the boys and is even looking forward to the hard work, led mainly by fitness coach Tom Little.

"No player particularly enjoys the first few weeks of pre-season but that's what you need to do. Pre-season was really good last year actually and a lot of us actually enjoyed it and Tom [Little] has done a great job since he has been at the Club.

"He knows when to push us and when we've worked hard and he's experienced as well. He knows when to do that and we look forward to working with him again this season and I'm sure it will be similar to last year in terms of the work we did.

"We had the off-season programmes from him and I'm sure a lot of us have done that and it's kept us ticking over because it's important that you do that.

"These next couple of weeks are just about getting through it and then getting to the games and getting some match time."

Pre-season is a major part of the preparations for the new season, and Paul and his teammates are relishing the challenge of competing in the Championship.

"We're looking to build on last year, we've got a good team spirit and we spoke about that in a meeting when we got back and we are looking to continue that.

"Working as hard as we can for each other is a given, and we will learn as we go and improve both individually and collectively. We are looking forward to the challenge and we are under no illusions that there are some big clubs in there but we regard ourselves as a big Club as well.

"We are where we want to be and now it's about doing as well as we can and improving as go."
