Five Star Result Pleases Gaffer

14 March 2015

Simon Grayson was delighted his side’s performance was matched by the result as PNE put Crewe to the sword this afternoon.

Four goals from Joe Garner was rounded off with Jermaine Beckford’s late strike with the Lilywhites recording a 5-1 victory – their biggest home win of the season.

The only minus being Crewe’s solo goal 10 minutes from half-time with Oliver Turton managing to seize on a rare lapse on concentration from PNE to send the score at 2-1 going into the break.

Fortunately the goal did little to halt the Lilywhites momentum with three goals scored in the last 20 minutes.

The result epitomised an excellent performance from Grayson’s side, particularly the opening 20 minutes where North End came bursting out the starting blocks taking the lead as early as the 11th minute.

“I think the result was a reward for how well we started the game,” stated Grayson to PNE Player this afternoon.

“It was disappointing to concede when we did, but the good thing about it was that the players weren’t affected by it.

“They got back on it again and started to play in the right areas again.

“In the second-half we said it was going to be vital to start the game as well as we did after half-time, and we ran out worthy winners after a good performance."

On Garner's four goal haul, Grayson continued: “he’ll thank some of the players who assisted his goals like Gally’s ball for his header which was a great ball."
