Beckford Credits Team-Mates For Delightful Finish

7 May 2015

Jermaine Beckford praised his colleagues after giving PNE a slight advantage going into the second-leg at Deepdale.

After the disappointments of last weekend, Beckford’s strike in the 6th minute marked an electric opening for North End, chipping the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net.

It was a nervy ending, but Simon Grayson’s side held on to secure a slender 1-0 victory going into the return leg against Chesterfield at Deepdale on Sunday.

Beckford marked his goal with a fantastic performance leading the line alongside Joe Garner, and the marksman was quick to point to his partner in crime in what proved to be the only goal of the game.

“I took the chance exactly the way I knew how I could and I’m glad of the outcome of it,” told Beckford to PNE Player after the final whistle.

“As a striker, your partner knows exactly what type of runs you’re going to make – he [Joe Garner] heard me call it, and I have to give credit to him and Chris [Humphrey] for the goal – but especially Joe because if he didn’t do what he did, I wouldn’t have been in to score.

“After the weekend’s results we all felt that we hadn’t done ourselves justice and there was a feeling after the game that was quite painful – a pain that nobody in the changing room wanted to feel again and we want to use that as added motivation to put us over the line today.

“It’s only half-time in the grand scheme of things but we’re really happy with how things went.”
