Manager Simon Grayson is looking forward to this weekend's promotion decider against Colchester United and feels his side deserve to be in this position.
Speaking to PNE Player ahead of the game, Grayson said: "It's exciting times for everybody, nervous times for a lot of supporters but it will be the same for everyone connected with MK Dons as well.
"We are in a position that we wanted to be in from the start of pre-season training that we did, we've spent a lot of time on the training pitch, we've done a lot of work, travelled the miles and the supporters have spent a lot of money and travelled long distances and now it boils down to one game.
"Obviously we're very confident in what we can do, we're very focused and we're not going to be complacent but we've worked extremely hard to be given this opportunity to get promotion to the Championship and obviously we are not going to give up on it lightly.
The gaffer is fully aware of what is at stake for both sides on Sunday and knows his side must be at their best and remain focused on the task at hand in order to overcome a Colchester side fighting for survival in League One.
"I think Colchester played very well against Swindon the other night so we know that they will be up for the fight, they know that they've got nothing to lose and that they have to go out and win the game.
"So we know we have to be focused, they've got players who are desperate for survival and we fully respect Colchester and what they've done. We know what to expect but again I'm sure they are aware of what's at stake for us."
