International Round Up

18 November 2015

During the international break, North End have had three players away representing their national sides.

Bailey Wright, Jordan Pickford, and Alan Browne have been away with their respective countries during the break from league action.

Bailey Wright continued his impressive cleansheet record, playing the full 90 minutes at the back for both of Australia's World Cup qualifiers this month.

The Socceroos won both games, beating Kyrgyzstan 3-0 in Canberra, before a 4-0 away to Bangladesh on Tuesday.

The Aussies sit top of qualifying group B after five wins and a draw from their first six qualifiers.

On-loan goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was also action over the break, with Gareth Southgate's England U21 side.

Pickford was between the sticks for both of the young lions UEFA Under 21 Championship qualifiers, keeping a cleansheet in the first game as England were held to a 0-0 draw away to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

England then faced Switzerland at the AMEX Stadium, and came from behind to win the game 3-1, with all three goals coming in the final eight minutes of the game.

The 21-year-old has been impressive for both Club and country so far this season, and has remained in goal for Southgate's side since making his debut for the Under 21s at Deepdale back in September.

England currently sit three points clear at the top of their qualifying group, after an unbeaten start to the qualifying campaign.

During a week of celebration in Republic of Ireland after the senior squad qualified the 2016 European Championship, Alan Browne was away with the Under 21 squad as they continued their campaign to reach the U21 Championship finals in 2017.

Prior to their game against Lithuania in Vilnius on 13th November, the side were joint top of their UEFA U21 Championships qualifying group.

Browne played the full match but the game ended in disappointment for the Irish boys, as Lithuania came out 3-1 winners on the night.

They now sit joint third in the qualifying table, with four qualifiers still to play, with the next one coming on 24th March at home to Italy, who currently sit top of the group.

The 20-year-old then featured in a friendly against Norway, where he played the majority of the 0-0 draw in Waterford.

All three players will resume training with the squad at North End this week ahead of Saturday derby match against Blackburn Rovers at Deepdale.

Tickets are still available and can be purchased in person at the ticket office, by calling 0344 856 1966 or online at MyPNE.Com.
