Midfielder Daniel Johnson admitted it was a tough defeat to take as PNE were beaten 2-1 at Griffin Park.
Johnson gave PNE the lead inside the first minute but Brentford came back with two goals in three minutes in the second half to take all three points, and Johnson knows the team need to do better.
"That was a hard defeat to take, I don't really know what to say to be honest.
"All the boys are down, the players and the coaches and it was tough one to take because we thought we could come down here and cause an upset and get the three points and get the result that we needed.
"We just need to make sure we bounce back and we come back stronger from this.
"It's a painful defeat and we just need to look back on it and see where we went wrong and try to rectify that in the next game, and then the games after that.
"In the second half they came out fighting with a lot of energy and they made a some changes and it just seemed to work for them."
