Academy manager Nick Harrison felt the Lancashire Senior Cup tie against Everton provided a good experience for his young side.
The Premier League outfit ran out 3-0 winners in the first round of the competition, and despite being disappointed to lose, Harrison felt there were plenty of positives to take from the game.
"It was a great game for the younger boys especially and that's what it was all about.
"Some of the senior players got 90 minutes under their belt as well, and it was disappointing to lose two of them early on through injury because we had to deal with that.
"So it was a good game for us but obviously disappointing to not go through into the second round but I think some of the players can take credit from their performances."
