Simon Grayson Reflects On Point Earned

15 September 2015

Manager Simon Grayson spoke to PNE Player after his side’s draw with Bristol City, in a game where both sides could have come away as victors.

The Lilywhites boss spoke to the online TV channel after the game felt that the final score was a fair reflection of the opportunities both side had.

“A draw was probably a fair reflection of the game in the end,” he said. “It was a game both teams could have won, lost and that ultimately they drew.

“It was an entertaining game, where both sides were trying to win it and we had some good chances, but when they equalised they also had a couple of very good chances to go and win it, but overall it is a fair result.

“We have given a decent account of ourselves. We know there are things we need to improve upon, but we have stopped the run of three defeats.

“Both teams know so much about each other and whilst they were both desperately trying to win it, in the first half we cancelled each other out somewhat.

“I said at half-time to the players that it was a bit like a basketball game, where one side attacked, turned over possession and the other side then countered, but overall we are pleased to get another point on the board, but we know what we need to do better at times.”

The North End goal came from a 30-yard wonder strike by Neil Kilkenny, after Joe Garner had again seen a shot from similar distance come back off the woodwork once again, in the first half.

“Joe was unfortunate again – it was a great strike that hit the bar and then again in the second half he had two strikes that were blocked, but the chances evened themselves out across the game,” continued the gaffer.

“Neil will be delighted with his goal. We have told all the players over the last few weeks that they need to have a bit more desire in that area and try to shoot a bit more and have that desire to hit that target and for him to score from that sort of distance is usually few and far between, but he hit it well and we were all delighted with it.”
