Gaffer Wants Strong Finish From His Players

28 April 2016

Manager Simon Grayson wants a strong finish to the season in the final two games to finish as high as possible in the table.

North End currently sit in 11th place in the Championship, and the gaffer wants to end the season on a high, starting with this weekend's game against Reading.

"We want to win as many games as possible, we want to end the season on a positive note and also finish as high up in the division as possible. We have been trying to do that over the last few games but we've not actually got the results that I think our performances have warrented at times.

"We've not had the breaks, we've probably not had a few things go our way at times but we are certainly pleased with the players' performances and their attitude. They haven't had one mind on the end of the season, they've been giving everything that they've got it their lockers to try and achieve positive results."

"It's up to the players to go out and perform like they should do, they are paid to play football, and there's a level that the players need to keep performing at because if you don't perform then other teams are going to take advantage of that.

"We want to make sure we try and get as many points as possible and finish the season where we deserve to be."

The manager should have a few more options available to him this weekend with Eoin Doyle and Marnick Vermijl expected to be back available for selection, and there will be late fitness tests on Anders Lindegaard and John Welsh who both missed last week's derby against Burnely.

"They are both making decent progress and we will give them both as long as possible. Anders has had about ten days now with his shoulder, John just tweaked his calf last Wednesday. It happens, so we will give them the opportunity to be fit and available, if not, somebody else will be in the squad and take those positions.

"We are getting to the back end of the season now, you are always going to pick up the odd injury along the way but it's just nice to have one or two more available as well.

"Eoin Doyle has come back after being missing for family reasons, Marnick Vermijl should be available as well so there's two that we didn't have last weekend.
