Jermaine Beckford admitted his frustration to PNE PlayerHD on his disallowed goal.
However, the replays showed that Beckford was behind the ball and that the goal should have stood.
It would have been the equaliser North End craved after pushing Fulham all the way for a second in the latter stages, and Beckford conceded his frustration following the final whistle.
"It's a new one to me," said a baffled Beckford to PNE PlayerHD after the game.
"It was a great ball from Chris Humphrey out to the right into Tom Clarke. I made a late run and I was about a yard or two onside. I'm just as surprised as anyone but these things happen in football. They shouldn't but they do; we have to get on with it and on to Tuesday's game.
"We played much better football second half. We got our lines much closer together and there was support from across the field but it's one of those things; we have to take it on the chin and as much as it hurts and that we should be coming back with a point, it happens.
"There's many reasons why we love the game and why it frustrates us and unfortunately today was one of the frustrating days."
Although Becks was denied a goal, he wasn't denied an assist after providing the cross for Callum Robinson which saw Preston back into the game, and Beckford drew on the positives of the youngster's late cameo.
On Robinson's goal, he continued: "It was a very good header and one that I'd have been proud of. We've been practicising it in training and fortunately for him, it's paid off today and if he can get a few more headed goals and the strikes he gets, he's going to be some player."
