Alan Browne: "We Have To Bounce Back"

26 December 2016

Midfielder Alan Browne focused on the bigger picture following North End's defeat to Leeds this afternoon.

The loss to Leeds today was North End's third in 15 games and Browne believed that the 4-1 scoreline was unjust considering the performance.

"I don't think we did too badly today, even in the first-half," said Browne to PNEPlayerHD after the game.

"They scored three goals yes but I still think we created enough chances to win the game; They were just ruthless in the box.

"We turned things around slightly in the second-half and changed formation and it worked.

"We started off with high pressing, they made a good few saves and we were a bit unlucky. I haven't seen the incident but the red card has killed us, they've got the fourth and its killed off the game."

The incident Browne was alluding to was the red card given to Jermaine Beckford mid-way through the second-half which saw North End down to ten men for the remaining minutes of the match.

Despite that, Browne further went on to state that the Lilywhites have showed their resilience in bouncing back from disappointing results several times this season, and with Sheffield Wednesday up next at Deepdale on New Years Eve, Browne is confident North End can bounce back once more.

"It's disappointing for us because we have been on a good run, but so have they (Leeds United). One team had to put an end to that and unfortunately for us today it was us, however, we've got to kick on again like we always do and try and get the three points in the next game.

"We went in at half-time disappointed but we knew there could be something there for us. We created enough chances in that second-half to get back on level terms but it just didn't fall for us sadly today."

One of those chances came to Browne himself who almost cut the deficit from close range, only for Leeds goalkeeper Rob Green to palm the ball away just in the nick of time.

"I didn't have time to think about it," continued Browne on that chance. "I just swung my leg at it, he's a really good 'keeper and he's managed to pull off a great save but I probably should have scored.

"However, we had lots of chances and a couple of claims that I thought we were unlucky with."
