Chris Maxwell 'Fully Confident' In The Squad In Front Of Him

15 December 2016

PNE goalkeeper Chris Maxwell spoke to PNEPlayerHD ahead of Saturday's fixture against Bristol City.

Just 12 hours after the Lilywhites secured a 1-1 draw away at Nottingham Forest, attention for Maxwell and co turns to Saturday where Bristol City are the hosts down in the West Country.

Maxwell, who made a number of key saves in the score draw to Forest reiterated to the club's media channel the confidence he has in the players in front of him going into another tricky away fixture this weekend.

"I'm sure it was good viewing for the fans watching and for the neutral and overall I thought we did pretty well," said Maxwell On Wednesday's night encounter against Forest.

"We're doing well, we're playing well and creating chances and we're confident going into the game against Bristol City. If we stick to the game plan and listen to the staff and be disciplined and do our stuff on the day, hopefully it will come off. It would also be nice to keep a clean sheet because we haven't had one for a few games.

Maxwell continued: "I'm loving every minute of it here, I'm enjoying the environment I'm working in and the group of lads too.

"It's a perfect environment to be in and the staff here have really grown me as a player. I'm enjoying being challenged and it's good times for myself."

"(Ashton Gate) It's a tough place to go to. I've known that from previous games I've played in that it's a hostile environment. They've always had good players, they play at a fast tempo so there's no doubt we'll be under the cosh for some parts of the game but also we know that we'll be all over them in parts of the game too. I'm fully confident in the lads in front of me that we can get three points."

Rewind back to Wednesday night, and it was bitter sweet for Maxwell, as despite making a number of saves and playing his part in earning a point away from home, it could have easily have been three had Thomas Lam's effort not rebounded off Maxwell and into the net, and although it was by no means any fault of North End's shot stopper, the Welshman couldn't help but rue their fortunate goal which earned the home side a point.

He added: "You've got to get on with your job, but after the game you reassess and last night in bed you're thinking how you could have prevented that and the what if's but that's part and parcel of football and something you need to get on with."
