Derby Days Great Days To Be Involved In Says Gaffer

8 December 2016

Manager Simon Grayson is looking forward to this weekend's Lancashire derby Blackburn Rovers come to Deepdale on Saturday.

North End came out 2-1 winners in the last encounter between the two sides, and the PNE boss admits there is an added edge to derby day.

"It's the sort of game that really whets the appetite, I think last year you saw with the games against Burnley, Bolton and Blackburn, they were great atmospheres and good games to be involved in.

"Ultimately you want to make sure that you play with your head as well as your heart and you're cool on the touchline as a management and staff and you do whatever is required to go and win another football match.

"That's all it is really, it's another three points for the clubs involved in derby matches but obviously we know the significance of what it means to the supporters.

The game against Owen Coyle's side kicks-off a run of four big home games at Deepdale with Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday and Arsenal all coming up in the next three weeks.

"They are great occasions to be involved in, when you look back at the month of October when Villa, Newcastle and Huddersfield came there were some big followings, some good results and good performances.

"It's what you want week in and week out, so I'm sure the players will look forward to Saturday and the following games but obviously what we do is try and keep our focus to get as many points as possible.
