No Room For Sentiment For Grayson

22 December 2016

Manager Simon Grayson will be as determined as ever to pick up the points against former club Leeds United on Boxing Day.

Despite having a strong affiliation with the Yorkshire outfit, the PNE boss will be focusing on continuing his side's recent form with a victory at Deepdale.

Speaking of the festive clash, the gaffer said: "It's a team that is close to my heart but ultimately it's about trying to get three points against anybody in the Championship.

"It would be a great satisfaction to get another three points to add to the run that we've been on recently.

"Any points that you get in the Championship have to be hard fought no matter who you are playing against.

"Traditionally Boxing Day is a fantastic fixture in the English football calendar and there's probably no better way to celebrate it than to play Leeds who have got their full allocation of tickets, and I'm sure the home support will be out in their numbers as well.

"It's a fantastic game and hopefully we can come out on top and carry on the form that we are in at this moment in time.

The squad and staff will be sacrificing Christmas morning at home to make sure their preparations are right ahead of the game, but the manager will make sure the balance is right for the players.

"The players will be in on Christmas Day, I don't think there is a right or wrong way to do it. I've been involved as a player and a manager where I have been in on Christmas Day and we have won and lost and the same having been off on Christmas Day.

"There is no right or wrong way to do it, we are just going to be in to get our preparations finalised. The players understand that it's part and parcel of the sacrifices that you have to make as a footballer.

"We always say that Christmas for them is in May/June time when they get the seven or eight weeks off. We will be fair with them in that we won't be in for long so they can get back to their families.

"They obviously will have to be careful with what they are eating as well on Christmas Day because the game comes around very quickly the following day and they need to be right to be at their peak condition."
