Simon Makienok Delighted Hard Work Is Paying Off

17 December 2016

North End's Simon Makienok took to PNEPlayerHD to state his content after making it two goals from two games.

The towering forward's goal in the first-half was the relief that PNE needed after weathering the threat of Bristol City in the opening exchanges.

The goal became the catalyst in North End's 2-1 victory this afternoon, a win which ensures the players return to Lancashire with four points from a possible six after spending the week away from Preston.

Makienok told PNEPlayerHD: "We've been on the road since Wednesday and we had a home win the week before that so it's an amazing feeling going in to this little break now with seven out of nine points from these three games. Everybody is buzzing in the dressing room and it couldn't be better.

"We could have easily have got nine points from the last three but four from two away from home at grounds like Bristol City and Nottingham, where you always know that they're going to be difficult sides to play against especially away from home."

The Danish striker is enjoying his best run in the side since joining the club in the summer; prior to that, Makienok has predominantly had to impress on the training ground rather than on the pitch, and although he's feeling the repercussions of three 90 minutes in the space of a week, he told PNEPlayerHD he is enjoying showing the North End fans what he is capable of.

The goalscorer continued: "I haven't played 90 that much this season but now I've played three in seven days so I'm feeling it in the legs but I'll take it and it's always easier when you get three points.

"I've worked hard all season to try and get into the team and I always try and to do my thing, either from the start, or mostly until now from the bench but I'm delighted I was able to play from the start from the last few games to get the goals."

Makienok continued by adding a rallying cry to North End supporters starting with Boxing Day at home to promotion chasing Leeds United, and the number nine is relishing the Christmas period.

"It's always special playing at Christmas and we're lucky that we have a few home games over Christmas, hopefully we'll get a lot of fans in the stadium and we'll keep on going from this momentum."
