Defender Paul Huntington is looking forward to the final step of pre-season preparations this weekend.
PNE face Bolton Wanderers in their final pre-season friendly on Saturday, and Huntington feels the squad are in good shape ahead of the new campaign.
Speaking to PNE PlayerHD, the 28-year-old said: "We've done a lot of the fitness side early in pre-season and we are getting a lot of good match practice at the minute.
"We've still got a few things to work on obviously, but we've got just over a week before the start of the season.
"We will still have quite a bit of organising to do when it comes to the team shape and whatever formation and personnel we are going to play with, whoever that may be and we are just looking forward to the start of the season.
"I think it's just getting back into the habits that you normally automatically do throughout the season, and I think we've seen in the last couple of games that we've certainly looked a lot better.
"The team performances have been good and the lads are looking strong overall. That's what you are looking for throughout pre-season, not wanting to peak too soon but ensure that we are ready come the first game.
Huntington feels that this weekend's game will prove to be a good test for the squad ahead of a busy week preparing for the start of the 2016/17 season.
"It will be another tough game and we've had a lot of different tests throughout pre-season but it will be another good opportunity to get minutes under everyone's belts and then obviously the focus will turn to an important week building up to the start of the season.
"As always it's a quick start with there being five games in the first two weeks including the cup game. Any minutes that the team can get before then will benefit us going into that busy period."
"We've been looking forward to the start of the season since we got back so it's something we are looking forward to."
