Irish Training Camp Update

12 July 2016

The Lilywhites are in the Republic of Ireland for a week long training camp, with the players put through their paces including some gruelling three-a-day sessions.

Having arrived late on Sunday night they undertook three sessions on Monday at their Fota Island base before a training game against Fulham on Tuesday afternoon, who had also been staying at the same venue.

For Simon Grayson’s men it was a match where players were on and off, with some getting 60 minutes of action under their belt, including new signing and former Cottager Ben Pringle.

Played in very wet conditions on the training pitches where Martin O’Neill’s Irish squad prepared for the Euros, Fulham, who were completing the last of ten days at the venue, were the winners in the game, but for North End it was a game where players were rotated and formations and roles switched regularly throughout.

A number of players were not used after the workloads from Monday’s sessions meant they needed extra recovery time. The team will now continue to stay and train before returning to England at the end of the week ahead of the next pre-season friendly against Oldham Athletic at SportsDirect.Com Park on Tuesday 19th July, with a 7pm kick-off.
