Tom Clarke Happy To Get Minutes In The Tank

8 July 2016

Defender Tom Clarke spoke to PNE PlayerHD on 'much needed' game time against Bamber Bridge this evening.

The defender was part of a back four that started the game against Bamber Bridge and played the full first-half before being taken off at half-time with manager Simon Grayson utilising 25 players in total.

The match marked the start of PNE's pre-season fixtures and with games coming thick and fast, the defender believes it's vital that the players take advantage of the game time to prepare for the new season.

"It was something which was much needed," said the Preston North End skipper on clocking up minutes on the pitch this evening.

"We've been working hard in training and doing the running, but you still have to do the fitness work in the games and it was good to get 45 minutes under my belt.

"We've a game tomorrow against Chorley so we need to rest up and get ready again, you can do as much running as you want but the games are important and it's good now that they're coming thick and fast."

All seven of North End's new recruits played at some stage in the 2-1 victory over the local non-league outfit and the skipper felt the new faces did well in their first outing in a PNE shirt.

He continued: "The new lads have come in and fitted in straightaway; we already had a good group anyway so they were welcomed in and they were straight into the hard work."
