Spurr Ready To Make An Impression

27 June 2016

North End's latest signing Tommy Spurr can't wait to get life at PNE underway later this week.

After signing a three-year deal with the Club, Spurr will join up with the squad for pre-season training on Thursday and is looking to make a good impression straight away.

The defender admitted that it was an easy move for him after speaking to the manager and can't wait to get going at Deepdale.

"It's exciting to be a part of something and feel wanted and Preston have given me that opportunity and I'm delighted to get it done.

"As soon as Preston showed their interest, the way they played last year and the information I got from the gaffer about the type of group there is here it really appealed to me.

"I'm delighted to have signed and I'm looking forward to getting started this week.

"I can't wait to get going, to get training and to meet everyone and get playing games."

Speaking of meeting the team for the first time, Spurr said: "It's like being the new kid at school, I will just go in and be myself and hopefully I will fit in well with the team spirit and the training and crack on towards the start of the season."

The team spirit was a big factor in the 25-year-old decision to move to Deepdale, and he hopes to be a big part of that going forward.

"Seeing when the Club got promoted and then the way they played last year I think it surprised a lot of people but that team spirit goes a long way. Hopefully I can be a part of that and build on last year.

"I'm looking to hit the ground running and go back to training fit and make a good impression and try and get in the team for the first game of the season.

"That will be everyone's aim but it's good to have that healthy competition within the team."

On what to expect from him as a player, the former Blackburn Rovers man said: "I will give it everything and I would like to think I can contribute going forward as well as defensively. I can play in a couple of different positions as well which always helps to cover for injuries, but basically I'm one of those players that will give it my all and work hard."
