Plenty Of Options For The Gaffer

31 March 2016

Manager Simon Grayson will have a strong squad to choose from this weekend for the first time in weeks.

North End have been low on numbers in recent weeks due to injuries and suspensions and the gaffer is relishing having more options available.

"We've had a small squad, we've got a number of players out on loan but we made the decision that we didn't want to bring certain players back because it wouldn't benefit them coming back for just a couple of games.

"We have more players available now, we've got Huntington, Browne and Beckford all available for selection and Joe Garner is back from suspension too.

"So suddenly you're looking at a strong squad. There will be people that will be left out on Saturday that have been in and around it over the last few weeks.

Competition on the training pitch will be as fierce as ever this week but the PNE boss is confident whoever is selected on Saturday will be ready to put on a performance.

"We've had it all season to be fair, I think there's a real competition within the squad. They push each other, they're not happy when they're not in the team but they don't moan or sulk, we have a fantastic team spirit and a unity about the team.

"They will do whatever is required, I can only put 11 out there on Saturday, and whoever they are know they have to go out there and fight and scrap and earn the right to win the match.

"Whoever we put out there on Saturday, we are sure they will put on a performance and do whatever is required to get a result."

North End will be backed by a 7,000 strong away following at Ewood Park, and the manager was full of praise for the support shown by the PNE faithful.

"It's a fantastic achievement, when you look at some of the clubs in the Championship and the away followings that they take, this is obviously going to outpass a lot of the other big clubs in this division.

"Obviously it's fantastic support, mixed in with it being a local derby, it has the ingredients to be a fantastic day. We've proved this year when we've gone away with big followings we've always responded to that.

"We did it at Burnley, and at Bolton recently so it's fantastic that they are still following us, backing us and desperate for us to do well."
