PNE 1 QPR 1

Eoin Doyle scored in injury time to give North End a point they thoroughly deserved after the visitors took an early lead at Deepdale.

Sebastian Polter headed home from close range to give the Hoops a fifth minute lead, but Doyle powered a header of his own into the bottom left hand corner from Greg Cunningham’s cross to give the Lilywhites a point.

North End announced an unchanged starting XI, but had the returning Jermaine Beckford on the bench for the first time since August.

The visitors went ahead inside the first five minutes; the first time the Lilywhites had conceded inside the first 15 minutes of a game for over a year.

And it was German striker Sebastian Polter who got the goal with an unmarked header close range from a corner by Alejandro Faurlin on the right.

From that point on the first half was all North End. Ten minutes in Callum Robinson put over a cross from the left that Jordan Hugill header over bar from 12 yards out under pressure from Clint Hill.

Just after the quarter hour mark Daniel Johnson danced through on the right hand side of the box and saw an effort deflected just wide for a corner and moments later Greg Cunningham shot from 25 yards in a left hand channel that was deflected wide with Alex Smithies in the Hoops goal scrambling.

Shortly before the hour mark two chances in a minute as Greg Cunningham saw a shot blocked from close range after a quick corner the Irishman had won and then Adam Reach almost flicked Gallagher’s ball past Smithies, but the stopper claimed well.

With seven minutes left Anders Lindegaard made a superb one-on-one save to deny C hery from grabbing a second for the visitors when clean through on goal.

In the final minute of normal time with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s side doing everything to waste time, Jermaine Beckford was on was thrown to the ground by Clint Hill, but somehow referee Andy Woolmer gave a foul against the returning No.10.

But with two minutes of the six given for injury time the equaliser finally came. Some brilliant play from Greg Cunningham, who burst down the left, crossed into the box and Eoin Doyle powered home from 12 yards out into the bottom left hand corner.

The Lilywhites tried to push for a winner, however, the visiting side did everything they could to waste time and take a point back to London.
