Sir Tom Finney Stand: 20 Years On

16 March 2016

Today, 16th of March, marks the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Sir Tom Finney Stand.

The development began in 1995, with the new 8,000 seater stand being unveiled the following year, complete with lounges and press areas.

When fans arrived at Deepdale at the start of the 1995/96 season, they found the old West Stand had gone, which has been demolished to make way for the new stand.

The £4.4m building was officially opened at the Darlington fixture on 16th April 1996, with Ian Bryson scoring the only PNE goal in a 1-1 draw.

It was decided that the new stand would be named after Sir Tom Finney, Preston's greatest son.
