An elated Joe Garner believes PNE boss Simon Grayson deserves the plaudits for this evening’s historic win.
Although he himself didn’t manage to get on the score sheet, he was more than delighted with the end result and acknowledged that preparations prior to the game were pivotal in the victory that sees Preston back in the Championship for next season.
“It’s a great day,” told Garner to PNE Player after the game. “We played very well and that’s credit to the gaffer - he set us up the way we needed to because we knew they played a certain way but the gaffer combatted that so credit to him.
“I don’t think we expected it to be 4-0 because they are a good side. We scored at vital times, we scored early. We spoke about starting well and everything came to plan today.
“It’s special for the fans,” continued Garner who was at Wembley the last time North End were at Wembley as a fan in 1994.
“We’re buzzing that it’s going to be a nice trip home for them because it’s a long way from Preston so they’re going home happy which is the main thing.
“Hopefully they have a nice summer and we come back next year even stronger.”
